FREE GASTROSCOPING WITH HUNTER EQUINE VET AND RANDLAB AT ELITE EQUESTRIAN CENTRE It is estimated that 90% of racehorses, 75% of sport horses, and 60% of show/pleasure horses suffer from stomach ulcers. Signs of gastric (stomach) ulcers Include: · Poor appetite · Weight loss · Poor Body Condition · Poor performance · Loss in condition · Recurrent colic · Behavioural changes (wind sucking, crib biting, aggression/irritability, “girthyness”) · Sometimes the only sign they show is that they are “just not quite themselves” To diagnose ulcers, a 3-metre fibre optic scope (camera) is passed into the horse’s stomach so that all of the stomach can be visualised. This is done under sedation.
